ACL LIGAMENT TEAR

An ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear is a significant knee injury that can have a profound impact on an individual's mobility and athletic performance. This ligament, located deep within the knee joint, plays a crucial role in stabilizing the joint during activities that involve pivoting, sudden stops, and changes in direction. ACL tears often occur during sports and activities that put stress on the knee, such as soccer, basketball, skiing, or football. The most common symptom associated with an ACL tear is intense pain, often accompanied by a distinct "popping" sound or sensation at the time of the injury. Swelling and bruising usually follow, and the affected knee may become unstable, making it difficult to bear weight or move the joint properly. These symptoms can significantly impact an individual's daily life and athletic pursuits.

Meniscus

The meniscus is a crucial structure in the knee joint, consisting of two C-shaped pieces of cartilage (one on the inner side, called the medial meniscus, and one on the outer side, called the lateral meniscus) that act as shock absorbers and help stabilize the knee. Meniscus tears are common knee injuries, often resulting from sudden twisting or forceful rotation of the knee joint, particularly during activities like sports. Symptoms of a meniscus tear can vary depending on the severity and location of the tear, but they typically include pain, swelling, and stiffness in the knee. Individuals may also experience difficulty bending or straightening the knee fully, as well as a feeling of locking or catching in the joint. In some cases, a piece of the torn meniscus can become displaced, causing more severe symptoms.
